Pacific Rim Conservation (PRC) has a mission to maintain and restore native bird diversity, populations, and habitats in Hawaii and across the Pacific region. They have successfully translocated over 200 individual seabirds of 6 species (including ESA listed species) to create breeding populations that are safe from climate change and non-native predators. PRC is now working with a global partnership to document the application of this successful conservation tool to restore seabird species worldwide, the Seabird Restoration Database (seabirddatabase.org).

PRC needed to improve their workflow involved in propagating updates to their offline Access database into their ArcGIS Online web application. PRC also requested a summary dashboard that would visualize the contents of the Seabird Restoration Database, as well as technical documentation that members of PRC would continue to use in order to maintain their workflow after the project’s completion.

Jessica Hendricks, a GISCorps volunteer from Virginia, assisted PRC in their requests and successfully redesigned the Seabird Restoration Database web application, created a new summary dashboard of the Seabird Restoration Database, and gave PRC detailed workflow instructions for keeping their data up-to-date and about how to create more ArcGIS Online products and tools in the future.

  • PRC’s newly-created summary dashboard.

  • Selections of PRC’s new workflow documentation.

Project complete.
