The Kisatchie-Delta Regional Planning and Development District (KD) requested a GISCorps volunteer to conduct a needs assessment to help in re-establishing a GIS program and expanding the concentration of GIS knowledge.
Mary Cadena, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was selected to work on this project. She worked with staff at KD to evaluate the needs of the organization and determine what resources would best fit their requirements. The needs assessment document described the hardware, software, data, and staff skills that would be necessary to provide KD with the GIS capability to get their work accomplished. In addition, she provided KD staff with training on GIS processes and data manipulation so they could incorporate these methods into their planning and other work activities.
Kisatchie-Delta Regional Planning & Development District was established in 1967 by local governments comprising 8 parishes and coordinating with the State to be an economic development district under the US Economic Development Administration, with continuous responsibilities for regional planning. Kisatchie-Delta Regional Planning & Development District helps the region and its communities connect to resources, develop business, and grow community. Their role as analyst, strategist, and catalyst relies on their capacity to support a rural, distressed region of 55 governments, including two Federally-recognized tribes. They endeavor to align development and resilience strategies and to provide support that connects communities and businesses with opportunity.
