Mission with ICOMOS - Haiti
Assisting an NGO (ICOMOS) to preserve historic structures in Haiti International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is an international non-governmental organization of professionals, dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments and sites. They are interested in identifying historic structures in Haiti and also assessing damages to those structures in hopes of helping the Haitians and Haitian government to preserve the important structures. They are now working with Pictometry's donated imagery using their Pictometry OnLine (POL) application. The oblique data is of particular value for this particular disaster because of difficult situation on the ground, and the lack of prior inventories and identification of resources (see Figures 1 & 2 which are examples of Pictometry imagery from within POL).

Six volunteers are currently working on this project. They are: Randolph Langenback, Doug Commer, Patrick Sparks, Norma Barbacci, and Cliff Ogelby. They have been working on POL application for the past few weeks and several of them recently traveled to Haiti.
Prior to the trip, Randolph Langenbach created multiple large size images by merging multiple single oblique imageries that he had downloaded from POL. several hard copy maps were created from these merged images. Two examples of those maps are posted below (figures 3 and 4). Further, prior to the team's departure, another GISCorps volunteer Cristi Delgado, the City of Berkley's GIS Manager, was recruited for this project. She assisted the ICOMOS team by creating a map document in ArcGIS 9.3.1. She loaded the latitude and longitude of the structures (over 150 sites) into the application and using advanced features of ArcGIS 9.3.1, Cristi created a smart PDF (see Figure 3) which was provided to ICOMOS team prior to their departure.
